The 6 Practical Ways to use Bitcoin Payments to Drive New Sales

Accepting Bitcoin opens your doors to an entirely new market: hundreds of millions of Lightning users worldwide, including 5.8 million South Africans with Bitcoin to spend. But simply “switching it on” won’t drive new sales — you need to let people know you accept it.

The challenge? You’re already so busy, running campaigns, sending newsletters, updating your website, and managing in-store collateral. Adding Bitcoin marketing into the mix can feel like one more job.

That’s why we’ve created this practical guide. Inside, you’ll find plug-and-play templates, logos you can drop straight into your checkout, and quick tactics you can roll out with minimal effort (all designed to help you drive more Bitcoin sales without adding too much to your workload).

Whether you’re a small business owner handling your own marketing or part of a larger team, this guide is designed to make marketing Bitcoin payments easy.

Ready? Let’s dive in.

1. Make Bitcoin Visible In-Store

The best way to attract customers to your physical store is to put up a sign, visible to passers-by, that you accept Bitcoin!

Here’s a sign you can print and stick up in your window or on the wall outside and at your checkout.

2. Make Bitcoin Visible Online

The first and easiest win is visibility. You don’t want to wait for customers to ask if you accept Bitcoin; it should be obvious. If you only do one thing from this guide, make it this.

Start with what takes the least amount of effort: add a “Bitcoin Lightning Accepted” image to your online checkout next to the other payment options.  See how Chavda International does it?

Don’t stop at just marketing Bitcoin payments, also show well known wallets that support Bitcoin.

Recognisable brands, like Binance Pay, VALR, Luno Pay let customers pay in-store, build instant trust because millions of South Africans already use them.

You can display these on your shop window or door, at the till, on your online checkout, alongside other payment badges and in social media posts when tagging these partners.

3. Promote Bitcoin Payments on Social Media

Social media is the fastest and most cost-effective way to spread the word that you accept Bitcoin. By tagging prominent players like Luno, Binance, and VALR, you can reach millions of users if they reshare your post. For some perspective, Luno has over 5 million users, Binance has over 2 million, and VALR has over 1 million in South Africa - and hundreds of millions worldwide.

So, once you’ve made Bitcoin visible, announce that you accept it in two ways.

Step 1: Make a Broad Announcement About Bitcoin Acceptance

Write a brief post on social media (LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram) explaining how customers can make a payment. For example:

Use this template for posts

Good news 🚀 You can now pay with Bitcoin at [Your Business Name]!

[Insert short product/service description: E.g., Grab a coffee, shop our watches, book your next haircut, and pay with Bitcoin].

It’s simple: just select [insert gateway you use, e.g., Zapper, Peach Payments, etc] > Bitcoin at checkout.

Pro tips: Don’t forget to:

  1. Add the Bitcoin logo

  2. Add your store logo

  3. Tag your payment gateway (Zapper, Peach etc.)

Step 2: Create Wallet-Specific Posts for Targeted Amplification

Take it further by posting separate updates for each wallet (Luno, Binance, and VALR).

Why? Exchanges only reshare posts that feature their own wallet. For example, a clean ‘Luno Pay’ post gives you a far better chance of being amplified to their audience.

Below are a few social media templates you can use. Please note that the payment flow described here applies to both the wallet and scanning a Zapper code.

If you’re using another payment gateway (like Peach Payments), the flow may differ.

Luno Pay

Good news 🚀 You can now pay with Bitcoin at [Business Name] using Luno Pay.

Simply open Luno, find the Scan to Pay option (Crypto or Portfolio tab) and scan the QR code.

It’s as simple as that. @LunoGlobal

Binance Pay

Good news 🚀 You can now pay with Bitcoin at [Business Name] using Binance Pay.

Open your Binance app, tap on the scan code icon and scan the QR code in-store or online.

It’s as simple as that. @Binance

VALR Pay

Good news 🚀 You can now pay with Bitcoin at [Business Name] using VALR Pay. Open your VALR app, tap on the scan code icon and scan the QR code in-store or online. It’s as simple as that. @VALRdotcom.

Pro tip: Always include the “how-to” line so customers don’t get stuck. Each wallet has a slightly different flow, and a clear instruction makes it less intimidating to try.

4. Spread the Word via Email

Unlike social media, where algorithms decide who sees your post, every email lands directly in your loyal customers’ inboxes. So, it’s a great way to engage them by sending a simple announcement email informing them that they can now pay with Bitcoin.

Use this template as a starting point (adapt to match your brand’s style).

Subject: Pay with Bitcoin at [Your Business Name]

Body: As of today, you can now pay with Bitcoin at all our stores. Yes, you heard correctly.

Simply:

[Insert your payment flow here — see examples below]

  • Zapper flow: Scan our Zapper code at checkout using Luno Pay, Binance, VALR, or MoneyBadger Pay.

  • Peach Payments flow: Select Peach Payments > Bitcoin at checkout, then scan the code using a Lightning wallet (such as Blink, Blitz, etc.) or one of the supported options: Luno, VALR, Binance, or MoneyBadger.

6. Get Your Staff Comfortable with Bitcoin Payments

Every customer interaction is a brand touch point, so your staff are one of your best marketing assets. They don’t need to “pitch” Bitcoin to customers, but rather be ready and know how to answer when someone has questions about paying in Bitcoin.

Consider creating a small information pack that you can share with your staff, so they understand how Bitcoin payments work in-store and are prepared to address customer questions.

For example, when we partnered with Bootlegger Coffee Company to launch Bitcoin payments across all their locations, we rolled out a short staff explainer pack covering how Bitcoin payments work — everything from which apps customers can use to the exact payment flow.

Here’s a short video taking you through the payment flow.

7. Advertise on Bitcoin and Crypto Blogs

If you want to expand your reach beyond your own channels, place your business in front of Bitcoin communities by advertising on crypto blogs and niche news sites, such as CoinMarketCap, CoinGecko, and Cointelegraph.

These sites attract the kind of early adopters who are very excited about a new business where they can spend their BTC.

Advertising on the platforms doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. You can opt for a small banner ad or create a sponsored post (paid article or feature).

A few common formats include:

  • Announcement/PR message: “[Your Business] now accepts Bitcoin in South Africa”.

  • Mini case study: “How [Your Business] is making it easier to accept BTC payments in South Africa”. It could also be more results-driven, where you share the results after a few months, similar to what Steak ‘n Shake did on Crypto News Australia.

  • Special offer: “Get 10% off when you pay with Bitcoin at [Your Business]”.
