Paying with Bitcoin Lightning at Zapper Merchants

Welcome to MoneyBadger's guide on how to pay with Bitcoin at merchants that use Zapper. This page explains everything you need to know to make seamless payments using Bitcoin Lightning Network. Our goal is to make spending Bitcoin easy and accessible everywhere.

If you try to pay at a merchant that should have Zapper and they don’t accept Zapper, please report it to support@zapper.com, info@moneybadger.co.za and also ask the manager of the store to contact Zapper and activate QR payments. Apologies for any inconvenience!

How Bitcoin Payments Work at Zapper Merchants

Paying with Bitcoin at Zapper-enabled merchants is simple and powered by the Bitcoin Lightning Network for fast, low-cost transactions. Here's the step-by-step process:

Ask for a Zapper QR Code: At the checkout, request to pay via Zapper. The merchant will generate a Zapper QR code on their till or device.

  1. Scan with the MoneyBadger App: Open the MoneyBadger app on your smartphone and scan the Zapper QR code. The app will convert it into a Bitcoin Lightning invoice.

  2. Pay with Your Bitcoin Lightning Wallet: Use any compatible Bitcoin Lightning wallet to pay the invoice instantly. The transaction settles in seconds. Here are some recommended Bitcoin Lightning wallets:

  3. Confirmation: Once paid, the merchant receives confirmation, and you're done! They get paid in South African Rand (ZAR), while you spend your Bitcoin.

This integration allows you to use Bitcoin for everyday purchases without the merchant needing to handle Bitcoin directly.

Important Notes Before You Pay

  • Not All Locations Are Zapper-Enabled: While Zapper is available at over 31,000 merchants, not every location of a chain may have it activated. We recommend checking in advance if the specific store accepts Zapper payments. You can call the store or check their website/app.

  • If Zapper Is Not Enabled: Politely inform the merchant about Zapper and ask them to activate it. Additionally, report the issue to support@zapper.com so the Zapper team can assist in getting it activated from their side.

  • Staff Awareness: Store staff may not be aware that Bitcoin payments are possible via Zapper. Be polite and patient—explain the process and show them how it works by demonstrating the scan and pay steps. If Zapper isn't enabled, encourage them to activate it and report as mentioned above.

By following these steps, you help spread awareness and adoption of Bitcoin payments.
